The Grounds
We don’t aim to be an art park per se, but we love art that’s meant to be outside. We love how it must be site specific - the work must engage the particularities of the precise place it sits. We love the idea of taking a contemplative stroll around the farm and happening upon objects that stir something inside you, whether it’s a flower, a rock, or a unique work of art.
To that end, we will be inviting interventions in the landscape over the years to come. There’s no set schedule; these things are definitely best when they happen organically.
Ellen Rutt + Aaron Glasson, Goatscape
July 2021
We welcomed Ellen and Aaron to the farm the first time in the summer of 2021 for a site visit. Seeking to dream up ideas for future artworks in the landscape, they explored the grounds and patiently, with such kindness and generosity, listened to our hopes and visions for the place. Then they decided to turn a pile of scrap and salvaged materials into a magical sculpture for the kids (goat kids, that is!).
It’s the first artistic intervention made in the landscape at J2 Farms. It will not be the last!
