Avery Williamson, Between Seasons
Spring Equinox 2022
Between Seasons documents encounters with nature. Opening during the spring equinox, the show unveils a collection of paintings that honor the convergence of winter and spring - seasons of mourning and celebration. The paintings imitate the movement of an early spring breeze, the possibility of snow, hail and rain, and the tender buds emerging from the soil, partly obscured by the melting snow and decaying leaves. Between Seasons explores our entanglement with the other living beings, histories, and spirits who share this earth and space with us. The marks, palette and compositions of these paintings reflect my observations of outdoor exploration during this season of transition: looking up, moving forward, looking down and walking through the outdoor Michigan landscape. Between Seasons attempts to capture the powerful forces that give life tension and texture.
